Starting a career in Network Security in India.

Starting a career in Network-Security field is not so easy. Getting first job in this field is very hard as almost all companies expect 2-3 experience.

Easiest way is to get placed in related companies in campus placements.
But you are not sure in which field they will put your finally after completing the trainings.

My personal experience or suggestions are as follows:

1. Accept whatever you get irrespective of the salary. Any Job related to Routing or Switching or even network Monitoring will be fine to start with. No one will give you direct access to Routers or firewalls without significant experience.

2. Start taking CCNA classes from any good institute. This will give you confidence on how to handle devices. Start studying good CCNA book (preferably from Que CCNA 2nd edition).

3. Get CCNA certified and register on Naukri.com. Certifications will help you attract more offers on Naukri.com. Update Naukri profile every week to get more calls from recruiters/consultants. Do not buy any paid services from any website for Job premium services.

4. Learn how to use GNS3 and practice advanced network scenarios.

5. If you want to go for Security field, learn Linux basics, Snort and also learn how to run virtual appliances like ASA firewall, Checkpoint, SRX etc from this Link. If you find these firewalls tough to understand, start with Endian firewall.

6. Also have in-depth knowledge about TCP/IP concepts if you want to grow in your career especially in advanced technical jobs like TAC or ISP. You can refer TCP/IP Protocol Suite book by Behrouz A. Forouzan.

7. Try to get a job in a TAC or ISP environment as it will help you to learn a lot and also experience to work under pressure. The limitation is TAC is that you will learn only a single device but you will become expect in that device.

8. Learn Multi-Vendor devices/technologies as most MNC employers will prefer to hire a candidate with experience in multiple vendor devices.

9. Try to move or relocate to big IT Hubs like Bangalore, Pune, etc as it will help you to learning more and grow financially.

10. Make it a habit to learn at least one new topic/concept every day during/after work.

11. Study my website network.mwzip.com for Interview Questions related to Network Security.
